December and 2016

For December we are trying something new for the group: a progressive dinner and discussion for Christmas. We will begin at Brandi's house (1560 SE Evans) in Sandee Palisades at 6:30 p.m. for appetizers, then move to Amanda's for soup, on to Dulsanna's for salads and rolls, and end at Renae's for dessert. Along the way will be a time to share a Christmas story or book. It should be a lot of fun! If you'd like to come to December meeting, please R.S.V.P by commenting on this post.

You can check the sidebar for our 2016 book choices. We've nailed down January through June thus far. The other books we are considering for 2015 are listed on the page with the tab 2015/6 booklist & schedule. Please leave a comment on those that sound interesting to you. If you have any book suggestions, feel free to leave a comment about those also.

scary October book selection: Stiff

Ready for a scary October book selection? See how you do with these excerpts from Stiff, by Mary Roach, before committing to the book. It's morbid and funny. Also, check out the book choices for 2016. Email to the blog (see address in left column) with your suggestions.

The Running Dream

Join us at Amanda's in September to discuss The Running Dream. Also, bring titles you'd like to propose for the 2016 book list. As always, you are welcome to attend even if you haven't read the book.

Recommendation for books

I recently read what I think are the best books ever written by two of my favorite authors - "Last One Home" by Debbie Macomber, and "One Mountain Away" by Emilie Richards.

Book Club Blog

Dulsanna, I was just checking the blog to make sure I knew which books were for this month, which was good, because I would have been a week early.  I noticed that in the "other book suggestions" tab, the lilac gardens are shown as in Woodburn, but it is actually Woodland, WA.  (Wouldn't want someone to drive to the wrong place!)
I'm so excited to go there next year!

July pioneer books

We have three book choices for July by Oregon author Jane Kirkpatrick.
Read one that interests you, and come discuss on July 28th at DeDe's.

1.  All Together in One Place
(women alone on Oregon Trail, the first of a trilogy)
(more info here)

2.  The Daughter's Walk: A Novel
(more info here)
(historical fiction version of a book we did in 2012--
Bold Spirit: Helga Estby's Forgotten Walk Across Victorian American by Linda Hunt)

3.  A Light in the Wilderness (the first black woman to cross the Oregon Trail)

Possible book to add

Dulsanna, as I was trying to reserve the July book, I found a different one that is really fascinating, also by Jane Kirkpatrick, and I wondered if we had ever read it?  It's called Where Lilacs Still Bloom and is about Hulda Klager (of Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens near Woodland.)
Thanks,
Sue
